Christmas Eve

We had a great Christmas Eve this year. A yummy dinner and dessert and then the fun gift exchange. It was a fun night being with family. This is one of my favorite traditions because I just love spending time with family. One of my favorite things about this night is singing carols. We don't get to sing Christmas songs often enough. Emry had a blast with all her little cousins running around crazy and everyone was gushing all over Wesley.

Gingerbread Houses!

One of Ryan's favorite traditions is to make gingerbread houses so when we were in St George right before Christmas this year, I made sure we got to do it.  Emry actually loved it this year. Her and Ryan built a house and I made a little nativity scene. It was a fun time!

Christmas Sunday

These two make me so happy!

Emry loves Wesley so much, its darling.
 Sunday best

Oh, those blue eyes!! Love them!
We didn't do a Christmas card this year so we just took some pictures in St George on Christmas Sunday. Merry Christmas, Love the Gardners!

Polar Express Christmas Party

This year I was on the committee for our ward Christmas party. It turned out so cute. We did a Polar Express theme and it turned out cute. Everyone wore their pajamas and just had a blast! I was in charge of the invitations and with help from a friend, they turned out awesome!! We had a yummy dinner and when the Primary went up to sing Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Emry wanted to go up with them so she did. It was the most adorable thing ever. She was just learning the song then so she sang a couple lines but just seeing her up there was the cutest thing ever! Emry was pretty scared of Santa this time around and didn't want anything to do with him so she just cuddled Ryan instead.

This was my favorite part of the party. We rented this mural from another ward and it made the party. Love this little family of mine!

Breakfast With Santa

Lynne and her friends in her ward did the cutest Breakfast with Santa. It started with a cute little breakfast of donut snowmen and donut reindeer and little grinches. It was darling. Then Santa came and talked to the kids and they sat on his lap. Emry Was so cute. She tried so hard to be brave and not be scared of Santa. I asked her to give him a hug and she went up to him all shy and cute. It was darling.

2 1/2 Years!! Emry

Weight: 30 lbs (60%)
Height: 35.8 inches (55%)

Two years old is seriously so much fun! Emry is such a good girl and my best little buddy! We just love her so much!!

*Impresses everyone with her talking. She can talk and talk and talk and talk. She blows us away with all the fun things she is saying now. She talks like she is 5 years old. Everyone who meets her asks, "How old is she?" like they can't believe she is only 2.
*Loves to sing all day long. She can sing so many songs. It's my favorite! She loves to sing Christmas songs lately. Her favorite Christmas song is "Santa Clause is Coming to Town" She sings it loud and proud. She loves to sing all the princess songs and primary songs too.
*Loves to pick out her own shoes. I try to tell her what to wear but her shoes--that's her job! She loves to put them on herself too and she is learning her left from her right. She's getting pretty good at that. I guess her love of shoes, she got from her mama!
*The best big sister. She loves to give Wesley hugs and kisses. In fact, she HAS to give Wes a hug and a kiss before he goes to bed. Love that about her! She will sing to him when he is sad and try to "achoo" to make him laugh. It's darling!
*Started to get into pretend play. Like she will be Cinderella and I will be Prince Charming. She also loves to be the Daddy and I'm "the girl" and I have to be obedient to her. It's pretty funny and cute.
*Takes one nap a day that is about 2 hours, then goes to bed around 8:30 and up at 7.
*She is a very obedient child.
*Loves nursery very much. Can't wait to go every Sunday.
*She is currently a daddy's girl. She wants him to do everything and to help her do everything. It's pretty cute.
*Loves reading books (especially princess books).
*Her very favorite things are princesses. Basically, anything with princesses on it, she loves it.

6 Months: Wesley

Half a Year? Wowsers! It's crazy how time flies!! Here are some updates on our little man:

Weight: 16 lbs 9 oz (25%)
Height: 27.2 inches (75%)
Head: 17.5 (80%)

*Wears size 3 diapers and size 9 month clothes
*Loves to "talk." He says "dada" which puts Ryan over the moon. I have to remind him that he has no idea what that means, so it doesn't count as his first word :) haha!
*He is an awesome napper! Still taking 3 naps during the day, although he has some days where he only takes 2. I think nap #3 will be phasing out soon.
*Doesn't like sleeping through the night, which is a total bummer because I miss it. We started letting him "cry it out" a couple of days ago, so hopefully soon! *UPDATE: As of 12/11, he has slept through the night (from 8-7) three days in a row. I'm really hoping this lasts. I just decided he doesn't need to be eating in the middle of the night anymore, so no more middle of the night feedings. I think once he realized he isn't getting fed anyway, he just started putting himself back to bed. I really hope this sticks around.
*Sitting up like a pro. He loves to sit up and play with toys. In fact, if I lay him down to play, he gets kinda mad.
*Can roll from tummy to back and from back to tummy, although he doesn't do either very often. He does it most when he is happy and playing with a toy that gets just out of reach.
*Gets up on his hands when he's on his tummy (not quite up on his knees yet)
*Eating a bunch of veggies and fruits and has also had a couple of cheerios. He didn't know what to make of those at first. Funny boy. He is funny because if he knows food is coming, you can't get it to him fast enough. He gets so fussy when he sees me opening food, but there is none going in his mouth. Smart little man of mine!
*Loves his sister. He is entering into the distracted stage where if he is eating and he hears her talking or singing (which is always) he has to look at her and give her a big grin! They are such good buds, its darling.
*Loves to be tickled and loves it when you give him your undivided attention (which sadly, isn't very often...) But he will talk and smile and laugh if you give him your attention.
*Still has the most beautiful blue eyes. ...Swoon...
*Loves, loves, loves his bath. He will just splash all around and smile up at me. It's darling and fabulous!

Give Thanks

This Thanksgiving was spent in St. George with Ryan's family. on the drive down there, I told Ryan how happy I am that his parents moved to St George. It's so great to be able to be closer to family. I wish we could be even closer, but we'll take what we can get. Emry has been talking about going to Grandma's house for weeks so she was pretty excited too. (Although it was a complete disappointment to not have Cael there... We missed you Ben and Shalon!!) We headed down Wednesday night after Ryan got off work. Thankfully, Emry and Wesley took some great naps so it was a fabulous drive down (we didn't even stop once!). We got in around bedtime so after some bedtime stories from Grandma, it was off to bed for the kids.

I was crammed between the two kids for half the drive, unfortunately. Ryan complains he has to drive the whole time, but I'm pretty sure he gets the better end of the deal :)

The next morning, we woke up early to go do "The Gobbler," a 5K run I found in St George. My family always did a Turkey Trot in Dana Point so I wanted to do something similar to keep traditions alive. Laura made these cute turkey tutus for us to wear while running. It felt good to get up and be active before having that huge meal! I didn't do very good (although for not running for the last year, I can't complain too much) but I finished, so that's what counts!
Laura, me, Vivian, Ryan, & Brandon
Someone was a little tired after the race so he had a little snooze before Thanksgiving started (can't blame this on the turkey!!)

We spent the rest of the evening playing games, eating pie, and talking. It was a great day to reflect on the things that are most important and for the things we are most grateful for. I just love this time of year!

The next day we did a little black Friday shopping in the morning and then did a little hike in the afternoon. We hiked Shanobe Kibe (a small mountain, hill? in St George). It was pretty steep but a fun hike for us. Emry is getting better at walking some of the time, but she rode on my back a lot of the way too. Ryan carried Wes all the way up. What a trooper :D At the top of Shanobe Kibe there is an arrow made of cement that they used to use to direct mail planes a long time ago. So that was interesting to go see.  Then we headed home to have breakfast for dinner and play games that night.

At one point, Ryan was carrying both the kids. Emry loved that!!

If that's not the cutest hiker you've ever seen, I don't know what is!!!

The next day we slept in a little (Wesley had a bad night) and then that morning we helped Vivian put up the Christmas tree and then went to the river and fed the ducks. While the kids napped and the men golfed in the afternoon, the girls made Christmas Candy with Grandma Fay. We made fudge and Buck Eyes. Man, that homemade fudge was good! Such a fun tradition with Grandma Fay.

That night we went to the temple to see the lights and nativity. I felt the spirit very strongly as we stood in front of the nativity and listened to the Christmas music. I'm so grateful for Christ and all he has done for me. He is my Savior and I love this time of year that I get to feel the spirit of Christ all around me.
One funny thing: Emry saw an American flag at the temple and so whenever she does, she likes to sing the "Grand Old Flag song." We were walking around the temple and she was belting the song out. It was a moment when I just smiled and was so grateful that cute, fun little girl is ours! I love her so much!!

Emry loved seeing the Christus statue

Our family with the Temple lights.
We love to see the Temple!!

We finished the weekend off by going to Church, having a typical Gardner family dinner (roast, potatoes, carrots), and then drove back home.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year!

5 Months: Wesley

*Started wearing size 3 diapers
*Wears size 3-6 month clothes (but also wears a lot of 9 month clothes too) Love my little chunky guy!
*Still taking 3 naps during the day (two longish ones) and one short one in the evening.
*Still not sleeping through the night, sadly. I'm thinking he night never actually do it. He normally goes down at about 8 and then wakes up sometime between 4 and 5 am to eat and then back to bed till about 730.
*Refuses to take a bottle. We've tried every bottle and even though it's breast milk, we has no desire. He won't even suck. It's been a total point of stress for me, but I have since just let it go and given up :)
*Started eating infant oatmeal. It took him about a week to really get the hang of it, but now he likes it. He has also had green beans, squash, and sweet potatoes.
*So close to sitting up. He really loves to sit up and he can sit up for like 30 seconds before he starts to topple over. I think he'll be pretty happy when he can sit up and play with toys.
*Loves his sister so much. And she loves him so much. I just love those two together. They are darling.
*Still has blue eyes (I'm getting my hopes up that they'll stay blue...)
